Match Report U10's - 16/1/2022

Updated: Feb 27, 2022

U10’s EIHA Home Fixture at Milton Keynes Planet Ice - 16th January 2022

Another great professional tournament arranged by the team managers, coaches, parents and helpers of MK Storm, well done for the efforts of everyone involved.

Result 1st Match - MK Storm Won

MK Storm vs Peterborough

It took Peterborough three mins to break the deadlock, due to our improved lines reaping the benefits of some of the recent passing and defensive drills during training with Director of Coaching Andy Linton. 30 seconds later a powerful skate through the neutral zone into offensive territory saw Ding slot home a neat goal with nice link up play from Nüth. One minute later Jordan, on a breakaway goal from a quick thinking move by Tonks on a prompt line-change finished into the top corner of the shell-shocked Peterborough goal.

Seven minutes into the game some nice quick one/two passing from Pritchard opened up the Peterborough line two and Pritchard lofted the puck past the net minder and into the back of the net. With line one of Peterborough reduced to three players due to a dangerous slashing call, Ayres recovered quickly and with determination carried on. Powerful skating and accurate passing from Ayres and Jordan made them pay, as the game opened with them operating a two-way play position at centre which ensured the game pulled away from Peterborough.

With four minutes to go a pass from defence put through Ding again who accurately shot home. In the same shift Nüth finished the game off with a powerful backhanded shot into the bottom corner. Fantastic play from Pritchard kept Peterborough from pulling a few goals back and two saves at the end from Pinto maintained a fantastic result and score line.

Result 2nd Match - MK Storm Lost

MK Storm vs Coventry

C Calvert, Nettey and Pond went out on loan to Coventry to support the tournament. Massive thanks to them.

Ding broke the deadlock after one minute but the goal was after the buzzer so was cancelled out.

Five later mins Pond who was playing for Coventry and exposing weaknesses opened up MK Storm twice and could have had more with his clever skills and nice link up play and passing. C Calvert who was strong and powerful for Coventry, limited the effectiveness and scoring capability of MK Storm.

After 8 mins one of the best goals of the tournament was scored by Tonks on line one, who fired home a slap shot from a long pass and demonstrated one of the smartest plays of the game and showed what MK Storm can be capable of when the plays come together.

With 6 mins to go Ding found the back of the net again with great defending from Kenton who cleared the lines and brought the puck out, but Nettey on his last shift for Coventry punished MK Storm in the final moments with a nice finish to seal the win for Coventry.

Star of this match: Ayres

Result 3rd Match - MK Storm Won

MK Storm vs Solihull

It took only one minute with nice team work on line two between Iacono, Truong and Pritchard for Pritchard to break away and slot into the top corner. M Calvert with some tough defending on line two continued the pressing and allowed for a fruitful line two shift.

As line one re-joined there was lovely link up play with McEwan's skilful wing skating set up Jordan for a central attack that was nicely finished off. Ayres who was collecting the puck in defence all afternoon and making use of give and go, skilfully left the Solihull defence behind with quick puck handling and direction changes.

Towards the end it took great centre style play in line two from Pritchard to ease pressure and a few quick reaction saves from Pinto to maintain the score line and result.

Star of this match: Pritchard

Player of the Game

A great team performance across the three games that could have seen a few children obtain player of the tournament. Coaching staff selected

Ayres for 2 way play, goals, assist and defence efforts. Ayres pulled himself up after a nasty knock to help win the game.

Spirit of the Game

Ding for always working hard on improving his game and scoring three fantastic goals.
