Some pointers on skates fitting and use:

Children's toes need to be no more than 10mm from the end of the insole, ideally less.
Skates may need to be sharpened. As a guide they should be sharpened ever 20 hours of use.
Skates need to be laced tighter than you might think, if you haven't played yourself.
